Since publishing ‘I Bought a Hall‘ in 2021 Neville has developed a keen interest in writing. Particularly as his eyesight has deteriorated due to Macular Degeneration and reading scores is no longer possible, thanks to the improvement in computer technology writing still is.
Finding himself thinking and reflecting on his life he embarked on the first book in his ‘Thoughts’ series. ‘Thoughts for Tomorrow’ or Ramblings of a 93 year old was published in September 2023 and is available on Amazon in paperback or kindle format.
This book gives opinions on many subjects that have interested Neville throughout his life, not only music but science, cosmology and religion. At 93 years of age you begin to see life from a different perspective and the big questions like ‘Why are we here’ and ‘What’s life all about’ become more important.
The second book in the series followed quickly and was published in April 2024, ‘Thoughts from the Rostrum’. As the title suggests he returns to the subject that has played such an important part in his life, conducting. This book not only covers his route to the rostrum but thoughts on various aspects of music.
In spite of his failing eyesight the third book in the series is underway and should be available towards the end of 2024. This book will be mainly about the close relationship between religion and music. A complex subject which inevitably leads to more thinking.
